A hypothetical technological conference explores the benefits and concerns of owning domestic robots that make our lives easier, assisting in menial household tasks but collecting data about our personal habits while doing so.
Domestic robots are service robots that have typically conducted a singular task. Thanks to developments in recent artificial intelligence technology, domestic robots now have the ability to take on multiple functions and perform various tasks. The artificial intelligence technology used, LIDAR, allows the robot to sense its surroundings, creating a digital map of places and people in order to navigate and perform duties. This brings up cause for concern, as major companies create and develop their own domestic robots. The question of whether or not it is worth conceding one’s personal privacy to enjoy the benefits of a robotic assistant is left up to conference attendees.
The brand identity of the "Service or Surveillance" tech conference is a vibrant and modern representation of the complex relationship between the helpful service-oriented robots and the surveillance-oriented counterparts.
The poster underscores the dual nature of domestic robots, showcasing their advanced AI capabilities for diverse tasks while raising privacy concerns due to their ability to sense and identify personal spaces, leading to potential hesitations in widespread adoption.
The installation immerses attendees in the perspective of a domestic robot by stepping inside its body structure, featuring a screen displaying the LIDAR technology they use. This offers a unique experience of the robot's perception and functionality as they observe other attendees.
Designed to enhance conference navigation, the mobile app presents small robots conducting domestic tasks, which act as interactive buttons allowing users to easily access pertinent information.
The badges creatively extend the brand identity incorporating small cleaning robots for "i's" on the graphic side, and utilizing a color-coded system on the information side.
The conference merch serves as a creative extension of the event's theme, emphasizing the dual nature of domestic robots and the balance between service and surveillance.
